One Month, Two Oceans: The Changing Seasons February 2019

February was an incredible month for me – and one of extremes. In temperature and geography! You can read about my travels herehere, here, here and here.

I started off the month on Vancouver Island, which is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean.

Yep, those are surfers behind me. On Groundhog Day!
Surfer!

After a few short days back at Chez Badass (and work), it was off to Barbados, an island surrounded by the Caribbean Sea in the Atlantic Ocean:

2019 Barbados sign on the beach, just off the boardwalk.
Island of glorious sunrises…
And restful beach vistas…
And beautiful flowers. This one is called Pride of Barbados (aka peacock flower).
And green monkeys. This elusive guy shot by CJ on a morning walk.
And cute little crabs that are really hard to see when not scuttling around the beach.
And racehorses reluctant to be bathed in the sea, after early morning exercise.
And less reluctant horses actually swimming in deep water, for non-weight bearing exercise…
And tall ships (spotted along with the horses, in Carlisle Bay).

But all good things come to an end, eventually. This is how I ended my magical month of February:

Using a hatchet to break up my driveway’s ice.
Observing ice formations on my walks.
Trying to be as stoic about the weather as the Buddha of the Patio.
Today’s weather – I can be forgiven for shedding a tear or two, right?

March and the Spring Equinox – bring it on!

The Changing Seasons is a monthly photo challenge, hosted by Su Leslie at Zimmerbitch. Go check her beautiful blog out!

Rock on,

  1. You’re a lucky so and so Deb. You missed the worst of February. Have you been listening to the news about “Jody and SNC” ? That’s really something!
    Leslie

  2. I’ve only caught snippets of this, and Michael Cohen’s testimony too. My dim view of politics is even dimmer now, and I didn’t think that was possible 😒. Thanks Leslie!

  3. Thanks for sharing your February Deb…so jelly of that beach shot of your toes relaxing on the beach in Barbados…it has been a nasty and long winter already here in Northern Ontario but hope is on the horizon…weather geeks predict in another couple of weeks we will have a strong start to spring. I say “Bring it on!”

      1. I am fed up here in the north too….slammed with huge snowstorms dropping 10, 15 and 20 cm at a time then freezing rain storms turning absolutely EVERYTHING into a skating rink, then another snowstorm dump then more freezing rain…rinse and repeat over and over all winter long. Ugh, I need sunshine, warmth, no more snow and ice….Calgon take me away! LOL 😀

  4. I like your version of February better than mine!! … but poor Buddha left to chill in the snow bath 🥶

That’s a great photo of you at the beginning and I LOVE that purply-pink sunrise! Yes – bring on spring ASAP!

  5. Oh my goodness – it’s like from the sublime to the ridiculous! I can feel the walm balminess and then those last pics just froze my toes off. I’ve never understood how you guys can live with all that ice and snow!

    1. It’s a toss up between visiting George Washington House and watching the horses being bathed and exercised in the sea. Guess I’ll have to go back next winter to decide once and for all 😜. Thanks, Clever Girl!

  6. Oh man… I would be so bummed going from beautiful, warm and wonderful Barbados back to an icy drive way and an ax! Boo. Hopefully we’ll all have warm and sunny days soon. – Now… About those crabs… Do people walk around barefoot over there where those crabs are crawling around?? Also… Can they climb up your lounge chair while you’re basking in the sun??? I would be so freaked out. – LOVE your happy face in this post. <3

    1. Thank you Mimi! The crabs are very shy and hard to see. The only reason I even see any is because I am up and on the beach (barefooted!) at daybreak! They disappear by the time the normal humans are up and about.

  7. Well done, Deb. You had a fun February and your photos show it. I think it’s exciting that you went from sea to sea in such a short amount of time. No wonder you look happy in your first photo.

  8. AJ Blythe

It looks like a wonderful month. The Hub is about to have a month of extremes as he flew to the US today (DC) then goes to Hawaii, then back to here (where our temps are going to have cooled considerably).

  9. I am so done with the snow. I’ve shovelled, I’ve fallen, I’ve frozen my tooshie. lol. I used to live on Vancouver Island in the early 70’s. Of course it was only military families there in those days. I’m sure it’s changed a lot. That beach in Barbados sure looks nice. 😀

  10. A really diverse month with four seasons of clothing folded and ready to pack in a suitcase. Fun photos. I really like the camouflaged crab and the sunset is gorgeous!
