The Sunday Schnauzer – Chonkster

I recently came back from a 3 week winter vacation (more about that at some point…) and my reunion with family was joyous. However, I did notice that Bowser was a bit more…um…substantial than when I left.

Who are YOU to call ME chonky, Oma? Point taken.
I give you Exhibit A.

In Bowser’s defense, the island experienced ALL THE WEATHER while I was away. Snow storms, atmospheric rivers, and wind storms. Which made for less than ideal dog walking conditions.

Bowser’s daddy has to pick him up when he started limping and biting at his paws due to ice buildup. Long-time readers know Bowser has experienced many snowy walks but this was the first time it actually bothered his paws.
Storm damage on the trail.
More storm damage.
The trail is under here somewhere. Even more storm damage.

There is only one cure for our Bowser’s chonkiness.

Lots of these.
Including running at full tilt through the trails…
And lots of playtime chasing after ballies!

We hope you are having a great weekend, and are able to enjoy the great outdoors (and keep the winter chonkies at bay 😉).

Rock on,

The WB

    1. Bowser has definitely put on some weight around his chest and middle. His ribs are harder to feel than before I went away. He is really fit though…I can’t wear him out! Thanks, Alison 💕

  1. Wow! All the weather! Well, at least you missed it. I wonder if little boots will help with his cold paws? I hope your vacation was delightful!

    1. If we had more snow and icy weather, the boots would be something to look into. I’m not sure Bowser would wear them, though. I had a snowsuit for a previous dog and she refused to walk in it. Would just stare me down while standing stock still and stiff-legged until I peeled it back off of her. Schnauzers are extremely stubborn dogs 🤣. Thanks, Suz 💕

  2. Wow all that storm damage really put a cramp in your walking 🫤 And Bowser, I completely understand a little chonkiness with all the winter weather 😉 Now that Oma is home you can get back to your regular walks ❤

  3. He’ll run the extra weight off in no time at all with you back. How did he act when you got back? Was he over the moon or give you the silent treatment first to punish you for leaving? Oops, he’s not a cat so I’m guessing it was the former.

    1. My daughter brought him to the ferry to pick me up, and after the initial greeting excitement (leaping and twisting around my legs) he just melted into my arms for the short ride home 😍. Thanks, Jean 💕

  4. Looks like Bowser is already shedding his extra winter fluff. With wonderful walks like those, how can he not? We got back to the island late last night. I look forward to catching up with you whenever you are free. (Today is lazy day. I’m still in my PJs). <3

  5. When my son leaves his dog with us, she comes back at least 3 pounds heavier. When we leave our dog with him, she comes back at least 3 pounds lighter. There’s balance in the universe after all.
