Wordless Wednesday – My Fall Fungi Fixation

I’ve come across so many Amanita mushrooms this fall. Never encountered these before. Now I am obsessed.

Looks like tassels.
Side view of “tassels”.
Giant trio.
My fingers for scale.
Underside of same mushrooms.
In various states of growth and decay.
Beautiful clusters.

Rock on,

  1. They grow so fast it would seem like you could see them coming up out of the ground if you stood there a little bit. They are beautiful, but I’m always looking for mushrooms (most of ours are tiny) because the puppy girl always puts EVRYTHING in her mouth.

    1. Yes! They do grow so fast and I love to see the progress from day to day. So far Bowser can’t be bothered with mushrooms, and I am very happy about that. Thanks, Dawn 💕

    1. “Every mushroom is edible, some only once” a clever wag once said. Apparently these can get you high but also with a severe case of the trots. That’s a big nope from me. Thanks, Kate 💕

  2. Fun and Fabulous Fungi! I agree, Deb, different varieties of mushrooms everywhere. When Chuck and I were on the West Coast we could actually sit and watch them grow right in front of us. And, no…we were not doing any shrooms at the the time…☺️🍄 Great photos! 💕 Erica

Hi Deb – amazing aren’t they … some so poisonous – one really needs to know one’s stuff/identification. When I was there a forager from Victoria – came to the farm to find and pick mushooms for his/their restaurant – I had his details … so may find them and send them on. If not – I haven’t managed to. It is certainly the ideal place for mushrooms … and they are so delicious to eat (not the death cap ones!) … cheers Hilary

My goodness but they are stunners. A pity that the brightly coloured ones are likely to not be good for you!

Not that I like mushrooms, but Himself is a *big* fan.

    1. Those brightly coloured ones are definitely not good for eating! I do love mushrooms (to eat) but not confident enough to forage them – I’ll get mine from the grocery store. Thanks, Debs 💕
