V is for Vodka Drinks #AtoZChallenge

Having a favourite beer or cooler to bring to a summer barbecue or other social gathering is practically de riguer around here. I don’t much like coolers though, because I find them too sweet. Then, last summer, I discovered a cooler-type drink that is perfect for me. No sugar, but plenty of fizz and refreshing in flavour. I tried my first SoCIAL Lite, and I was hooked.

THE drink of last summer

And so were many others apparently, because it was hard to find in stock at the liquor store. So, what’s poor badass widow to do? Well, I improvised.

Let’s call this Anti-SoCIAL Lite, shall we?

Not as convenient to take somewhere, but more than adequate for having people in, or enjoying alone on the patio (of course) with a good book. Hopefully this year, it will be easier to find the premixed version in stock, to take along when visiting. (Are you reading this, SoCIAL Lite?)

What is your favourite summer drink?

Rock on,

The WB

Can you guess my theme for this year’s A-Z Challenge? All of my A-Z posts this month will be tied into my theme, which is represented by the title of a song that was popular when I was a child. Can you figure it out as the days (and posts) go by? Leave your guesses (one per day only, please) in the comments. At the end of the challenge, I will reveal the theme. Have fun!

  1. Never heard of SoCIAL Lite, but it sounds like a drink worth trying. During the summer I need to have one or two strawberry coladas. That’s one or two over the entire summer, not in a day – they’re too sweet for that, but they do say summer to me.
As I read your daily posts and as the weather finally changes outside, I’m getting more and more excited about summer. Thanks, Deb!

  2. I am a vodka and tonic kind of girl, so this appeals to me. I rarely browse through the cooler section of the liquor store so I’ve never seen or heard of these coolers either. I will have to keep my eyes open for them.

Since my vodka (or gin) is usually consumed straight up in the form of a martini (yes, even in summer), the thought of mixing it with sparkling water kind of makes me cringe, but I shall keep an open mind until I try it.
    Cheers! 🙂

    1. Oooh, I used to still love martinis. Need to pick up some Grey Goose (my favourite martini vodka) and shove it in the freezer for when the urge strikes. Olives or onions, Joanne? Or a twist of lemon? I’m an olive gal.

  3. Jean R.

SoCIAL Lite is not something I’ve ever seen advertised and I don’t go into liquid stores to shop and see it. In the summer if I need to bring a drink along it’s usually Zero Coke. Used to like all the “lady drinks” as we used to call all the fancy drinks back decades ago, but without a designated driver, I just don’t have opportunities to drink anymore.

  4. Sounds refreshing. A few years ago I visited a cousin in Milwaukee and he turned me on to “Milwaukee Margaritas” which it turned out, was just 5 cans of beer and one frozen limeade combined in a pitcher. It’s very refreshing, I’ve made them many times since.

  5. Well, because you asked… my favorite summer drink is Aperol & Soda with a wedge of orange on the rocks. I don’t drink them often because finding Aperol to buy is tricky, but the summers when I get a bottle of the stuff– life is good.

Here's where the magic happens. I love comments!
