Bowser and I continue to visit the trail near our home(s) almost daily. There is always something new to see every day so it never gets boring. One thing stays the same however.
I watch Bowser carefully as he is my early warning system (usually) of others in the woods. At one point during one of our walks, he stopped and stared intently across the water (of one of the side streams that feed the main creek) at the opposite bank.
While Bowser was looking, I heard some major rustling from over there and thought “Oh, it must be a very large dog that he sensed.” Well friends, it wasn’t a dog. It was the most magnificent buck deer I have ever encountered. He was huge with a very impressive set of antlers too. Think: Bambi’s dad; The Great Prince of the Forest-impressive. And, even though I had my phone in my hand with the camera app open, I was too gobsmacked to take a photo. Here is a re-enactment:
The next day, we disturbed a great big bald eagle at the shore of the creek. Again, no picture!!!! But this is what he was picking at.
I realize there are not nearly enough Bowser shots in this post, so here are a couple more.
Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!
Rock on,
The WB
Big buck photo? Nope.
Bald eagle photo? Nope.
Good thing Bowser is so cute…
😉
Isn’t it though?! 🤣 Thanks, Rivergirl 💕
That is so me. I’ll go somewhere with the intent of getting pictures and I totally forget. Even if I sort of remember, the moment usually goes by before I’m set up. I’d never make a great photographer.
Turns out not me either! 🤣 Thanks, Kate 💕
Nature has so many delights for us … and for Bowser!
It sure does! Thanks, Jane 💕
Oh, I can relate to being so impressed by what I’m seeing that I too have forgotten to take the photo! Once on my way to OR to see Grebes with friends we spied a pair of Bald Eagles high in the sky so we pulled over and then they began their mating dance! Holding each others claws and spiraling down through the sky I watched in total awe and amazement my camera in my hands. Finally a friend nudged me and yelled, “Shoot, Deborah!”. I missed the whole mating dance, but the scene is etched in my memory forever!
Yours memories of this hike will be too no doubt. Sometimes, that’s enough.
Your retelling of the story makes this hike fab anyway! 😍
You certainly know how to make a gal feel better, Deborah! Thanks so much 💕
Fun post as usual!
Thanks, Susan 💕
Oh my, you are so funny. But aren’t you happy for just savoring the moment of seeing that beautiful buck? Made me think of a recent moment when I saw two large coyotes coming up the gravel drive. My first instinct was to snap, snap, snap. Then I thought, no I should probably watch because 1) its amazing and 2) what the heck are they going to do/go? My cats aren’t allowed outside anymore.
Yes, very happy with what I saw. I want to capture it in paint or air dry clay but I’m afraid my work will not match what is in my mind’s eye (it almost never does 😣). Thanks, Tracey 💕
I’m glad you & Bowser got to enjoy seeing the wildlife! I’ve stopped taking so many photos of the animals I see as well. Rather I start talking to them…like I’m some damn Disney Princess!!! LOL🤣 And Bowser’s backside is such a cute photo❤
Thank you, Sharon – you damn Disney Princess, you 😉💕
How is it that Bowser is both so very wise and very cute?
How did we get so lucky with him?!? 😍 Thanks, Janis 💕
Yeah, yeah, sure, sure, I believe you! 🙄😂 Actually, it’s really cool you saw a buck and an eagle, but I can see them at my house too, what I can’t see here is Bowser so as long as you supply pics of him, it’s all good!😍
🤣 It’s a deal, Bobi! 😁 I’ll keep the Bowser pics coming, for sure! Thanks 💕
Glad Bowser didn’t think to chase that big buck.
He would have had to cross the stream first (too deep at the moment) and then climb a steep embankment. I’m sure the buck took one look at Bowser and wrote him off as a non-threat as he slowly sauntered away.😂 Thanks, Jean 💕
Being a keen photographer, I used to regret the shots I missed – for whatever reason. But I try to keep those clearly in my mind’s eye – and that works for me 🙂
That’s what I am doing too! Thanks, Debs 💕
Awesome! You are the second Canadian blogger to mention recently seeing a beautiful Buck Deer. And not having a photo makes our imaginations work that much harder — which is never a bad thing! <3
I admire the tenacity and patience of wildlife photographers who will sit and wait hours if not days to get THAT shot. Thank you, Donna 💕
There are times when we are simply meant to stand in awe of the beauty before us. Sound like an amazing sighting💕
It was! Thank you, Lynn 💕
That recreation is on point! 🙂
😁 I try my best! Thank you 💕
