The Sunday Schnauzer – A Quandary

I was busy doing something (probably haus-frauing) in my place and Bowser was playing outside with one of his new favourite squeaky toys when suddenly he started barking and would not stop. Now, he usually barks once or twice when he sees something he feels should be noticed (and I usually take no notice as I am wise to the Ways of the Schnauzer) but this was unusual.

I took a look outside and this is what I saw:

Bowser, in flinging Mr. Squeaky Chicken around, had gotten him stuck in the wisteria bush.
Soon he was dancing madly around, in an attempt to free the toy.
He even tried biting the wisteria, in an attempt to get it to LET GO OF MR. SQUEAKY CHICKEN.

Of course, before going out to free Mr. Squeaky Chicken and relieve Bowser of his misery I HAD to take pictures of all this drama.

After all, it was much more amusing than haus-frauing 😉.

Rock on,

The WB

    1. Mr. Chicken has been tossed into the bushes on Bowser’s parents’ side of the yard as well. So far it has not become a game, just an annoyance (on Bowser’s part). But I wouldn’t put it past him to figure this one out! Thanks, Deborah 💕

    1. These dogs are bred to be “ratters”, and they kill rats and other vermin by shaking them and flinging them so that their necks/spines break. I think Bowser has that killer instinct for sure…he has the highest prey drive of any Schnauzer I have ever known. Thanks, Kate 💕

  1. If he had yanked on that branch just a bit more he might have got it free on his own. But it’s always good to have a backup plan (getting YOU to free it). He’s a smart one, that boy.

Wisteria. With cascades of flowing purple blooms, wisterias are truly stunning. But their seeds (and seed pods) are highly poisonous to dogs, while the leaves and flowers can also be harmful in large quantities.

Brilliant Deb – such fun … try him with a rubber glove – my dog whipped one of mine in South Africa and piled round the house, out the back door and round, throwing it up in the air … it filled with air and ballooned down – such fun to watch. I so understand and I’m delighted you took the photos … whisper to him that his legs need to grow a bit?! Cheers Hilary

    1. That sounds like a great idea for a pinch, like when all his squeaky toys have been thrown up into the trees or on the roof (that would be my fault 🤦‍♀️) and I can’t reach them 🤣. Thanks, Hilary 💕

Hi Deb – I’ve liked it .. but it’s not taking … that’d be great and fun to see him … I loved seeing my dog rattle around four fingering and one thumbing the world with the marigold! Enjoy … cheers Hilary
