My good friend and WOYPBC co-host Donna and I are taking an ElderCollege course in her home community on Wednesday mornings. We usually follow this up with a walk and lunch. I’ve been lucky enough to be invited back to her place for our lunch…or am I?! This was a pre-lunch conversation during one such walk.
Donna: I’m going to serve us the lemon-lime soup I’ve been telling you about, for lunch.
Me: The one you said wasn’t that good? And that you were hoping to pawn off on me, to get rid of?
Donna: Oh goody, you remembered! Yes, that one.
She then peppered me with food safety questions about this soup – was it safe to reheat it in the crock pot for hours; how long could it be left out to thaw before it became dangerous, etc. (By now my eyebrows had completely disappeared into my hairline and I was wondering who I could get to call me on my cell so I could plead an emergency and beg off lunch 😉). Then she revealed that it was actually still in the freezer and she would heat it up once we got back to her place. Phew!
And now, for the moment of truth:
Friends, it WAS delicious. After all the anti-hype about the lemon-lime soup, imagine my relief!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this less than serious WOYPBC post. You know I am just kidding about Donna using me as a human garbage disposal, right? You were just kidding too, Donna…right? Please share with Donna and/or myself what’s on your plate this month! Please check her take on slow cooking, here! And here’s the Link Party, if you are so inclined.
Rock on,
The WB
😀
🙏💕
Hi Deb – that was a great read … loved it – and yes I’d expect the soup to be just what you needed after a busy morning … looks very good! I do wonder what was in the teapot – I thought it might hold the soup – but no, I note … I love reading these type of posts – well any actually … and I’m not sure I’ll get to join in – rather too much volunteering/organising things going on just now. Cheers – now I could do with some lunch – but it’s rather early. Cheers Hilary
Thank you, Hilary 💕 It was a fun post to write and I’m glad you enjoyed it. Remember to take some time for yourself and to refuel, especially when busy!
You can always tell when you go from “company” to “family” for meals!
Yep! And it’s a great moment in time. Thanks, Kate 💕
This is such a funny post.. What course are you and Donna taking?
The course is called First Nations Land in BC. Very interesting (and also very sad and shameful) overview of the history of First Nations and colonizers dealings over the land in this province. Thanks, Bernie 💕
That would be a very interesting and sad course.
That it is 😕
I’m intrigued. What exactly is in lemon lime soup…?
Hi, Rivergirl – Seafire Soups is a small, local company (out of Chemanius, BC) that hand packages dried ingredients for different soups. Bow Thai Lemon & Lime is one of their signature dried packages. If not is the area, here is a similar recipe from scratch. http://gourmetvegetariankitchen.com/2017/05/24/lemon-lime-soup-simple-clean-clear/
That sounds wonderful.. thanks!
I don’t really know, but thanks to Donna for coming to the rescue! Thanks for the comment, Rivergirl 💕
Too funny! Sometimes, the more you dread something, the more it might actually turn out okay. I have to say that the dessert assortment doesn’t look/sound tasty to me. The soup and charcuterie plate look delicious!
Donna did a terrible job of “selling” this soup to me, and I’m glad I found it way better than advertised! Everything turned out to be delicious. Thanks, Liesbet 💕
I love everything about this. The course you’re taking together, a walk afterward, and lunch. What a fun ritual.
The soup looked fantastic. However, the licorice chalk…😂
I love that so many people hate liquorice…more for meeeeeee 😁. Thanks, Kari 💕
My dad loves it too and has always says the same thing! 😂
You are definitely family now! I loved your entertaining telling of this lunch.
Thank you very much, Christie 💕
LOL!! That was funny. Yes, you are family! 😀
Just came back from you-guessed-it MORE leftovers served to me at Donna’s house today. Yep, proud to be part of her family! Thanks, Deborah 💕
LOL!! Yummy, and fun too I bet!
Always!
I laughed with delight all of the way through this post. You are definitely family now. There is no escaping it! <3
Oh, I’d never want to escape it! You’re stuck with me for life 🤣
Music to my ears!
I LOVE your version of the lunch Deb and yes I’d say you were family well and truly now!
Hi Deb, who couldn’t help but love Donna! I love how your friendship has developed and yes you are like sisters now LOL 🙂 No silver service for you anymore you are family x
<3
Absolutely! Thanks, Sue 💕
Very funny! I wrote a (not nearly as funny) post a long time ago about serving leftovers to certain, close friends and how those friends are truly special. You are obviously very special to Donna and Richard 🙂 I’ve never been one to stick with propriety, so I’d be thrilled to get the same treatment.
Here’s my WOYP contribution (I’ll also try the InLinkz widget):

WordPress stuck your comment in Spam jail for some reason, Janis. I don’t understand why, but then there is little I understand about WordPress, it seems. Anywho, I found you and have released you from this prison. Sorry I didn’t find you sooner. I’mm always thrilled to get the “family treatment” too. Thanks, Janis 💕
Great, now I want some lemon-lime soup. Lemon is one of my favorite flavors in the world. Love the playfulness that comes across when you write about you relationship with Donna.
Thank you, Jean 💕 If you can’t have fun with someone, are they even a friend?
I think you two are very well-paired in the friendship department! Sounds more like sisters-at-heart ❤️
Takes a sister to know one! Thank you, my other sister from another mister (and mother) 💕
I’ve never seen licorice chalk before… how cool is that? And that soup does look very, very tasty! I had Corn Chowder soup for dinner last night (Mom’s Meals) and it was good. I love their food… and it’s so convenient for me anymore. Takes a real load off of having to cook for the two of us and I know the serving amount is just right and the calorie/vitamin content is good. Can’t ask for more unless you have a personal chef!
Sounds like you have all the best parts of having a personal chef without having to deal with a stranger in your kitchen! Thanks 💕
We’ve only found a couple of meals that were less than desirable (too much pepper in the creamed corn on one dish).
Well, you were fed and you got a blog post out of the experience, so what more could you want? Loved this.
And fed well! Thanks, Ally 💕
Deb, I am cracking up at this! Especially the parts about plopping packaged food and stove pots right on the dinner (lunch) table. Everybody’s family in my hostess book. The lunch looked delicious. How fun, and what a delightful post!
It’s a universal truth, isn’t it? 😁 Thank you, Natalie 💕
This made me giggle – it really is a sign that you’re family. As an aside, though, the lemon lime soup sounds delish.
It was quite good! Thanks, Jo 💕

I love your tongue in cheek cross out lines and the fabulous friendship you two have developed. Also definitely family when the crackers are in the box!
Thank you very much, Bernie 💕
I am rolling on the floor, Deb! I thoroughly enjoyed following this lunch exploit! Oh my goodness!
Thank you very much, Ju-Lyn 💕
