The Sunday Schnauzer – Teething

Bowser is teething furiously these days. There is nothing safe from his jaws!

When not compulsively chewing, he has started pawing at his snout as well. Another sign of teething and tooth discomfort.
No amount of frozen washcloths and other teething aids can stop him beavering away at cardboard and pieces of actual wood.

As of the time this post goes live, he will be recovering from tooth extraction as well as “the” procedure, if you know what I mean 😉. While at the vet for the neutering, they noticed that the adult versions were coming in fast and furious yet some of the baby teeth were still solid as rocks (I had noticed that too, last week. Thankfully most of them are nice and wiggly). Tooth impaction is apparently a common thing with mini Schnauzers so his momma agreed to the extraction since he would already be put under and she wants to end the teething suffering as soon as possible. Believe me, we ALL do!

Oh, the indignity of this assault on his doghood from both ends! Hopefully we will be forgiven…

Rock on,

The WB

Oh Deb – he’ll love you all still and feel so much happier with life. In a week or so all will be forgiven both ways … he’ll be his normal self – cheers Hilary

    1. It took less than 24 hours, Hilary. He is already back to 110% puppy energy and foolishness, like “Surgery? What surgery?” We have to stop him from running and jumping and are not always successful 🤦‍♀️ ‘cos he’s so fast. Thank you 💕

Look – he’s there to entertain!! It’ll pass I’m sure… or perhaps you should start running the 100 metres??? Ha ha – what a thought … no challenges coming from here! He’s great … cheers Hilary

  2. Poor guy will feel better without that annoying tooth. I didn’t know it when I got my schnauzer but the breed is prone to teeth issues due to the bacteria in their beards finding their way into gums. I had to spend thousands on Levi’s teeth when he got to be five and six. My tip would be to start brushing Browser’s teeth soon and get him started on Greenies or what your vet recommends for good oral health.

When Levi got his cone he would only walk backwards.

  3. 4 dogs later we’ve never really experienced teething that had resulted in more than a couple of things chewed up like a riding boot! Glad he’s already recovering.

    1. Yes! The Yum boxes are piling up. Donna and I sampled one box a couple of weeks ago, when we could finally get together…my renovations have been sapping all my energy so I haven’t written the post yet. The only reason you are even seeing Sunday Schnauzers is that I had so many pre-written. I think when Donna and I get together next we will have to sample 2 or more boxes at a time, to get caught up! 😂 Thanks, Janis 💕

    1. I have been letting him go coneless and he is not bothering his incision. His momma is more letter of the law and I am more spirit of the law 🤣 so when she comes home the cone goes back on. Thanks, Donna 💕
