Wordless Wednesday – Tofino Weekend with My Sister

My sister from Ontario is here on Vancouver Island, visiting for 2 weeks. Last weekend we spent a delightful 2 nights in Tofino. Here are some pictures from our stay. Hope you enjoy! (We sure did!)

My sister enjoying the washed up wood on Chesterman Beach
Of course we had to visit Tacofino for a trio of delicious tacos: fried fish (lingcod, I believe), seared tuna, beef
Rainy Long Beach walk on Saturday, followed by lunch (Zoe’s Bakery: highly recommend!) and a visit to the Aquarium in Ucluelet.
There is a tuna derby going on all week long at our resort (Tofino Resort and Marina). $40K grand prize. Exciting!
This was cause for celebration on our part.
It was so much fun to sit at the pub and slurp back oysters, and watch the fishermen bringing their catch of albacore tuna in at the end of the day.
Caught in mid-bro fist. Sporting his lucky fishing wig? Or did he lose a bet? 😉
Official weighing: each team brought forward their 4 biggest fish of the day to be weighed.
Leader board with Day 1 results
Sunday morning found us on the Rainforest Trail.
Looking up at a giant cedar
Of course we had to visit the tree my daughter and son-in-law chose for their nuptials.
After checking out of the resort, we were off on a whale watching journey, guided expertly by Elder Moses Martin of Clayoquot Wild.
There were stunning vistas all along the journey. We spent a good amount of time watching a gray whale (named Orange Crush by the locals because of an orange spot on its fluke). I was too awestruck to get out my camera…sorry (not sorry).
We did see a good number of sea otters, and those I did capture a few shots of.
They are much bigger than river otters. These guys were hunting salmon.
So many beautiful views.
Gorgeous.
Happy, tired faces. Ready for the drive back home over the mountains, and to get rested up for our next adventure.

Rock on,

The WB

  1. Sister Time!!! ❤️❤️

You had my complete attention at ‘slurping oysters’. Why, pray tell, have we never slurped oysters?? An omission that one day must be rectified!

Hope you are rested up now and ready to have fun on your next adventure!

    1. It’s going on the agenda: “Slurp oysters with Joanne!” The next adventure starts in a few hours when we head to Campbell River for the all-day grizzly bear tour tomorrow. Thanks, Joanne 💕

  2. YAY for a lovely visit and vacation. The scenery is STUNNING. The river otters are adorable and yes, I noticed that they are quite large too. Whales are so mesmerizing, I get it that you didn’t think to pull out your camera, so kudos to living in the moment.

  3. Your pictures make me want to get in our car and head back to Vancouver Island. I’m so happy that you get to spend two whole weeks with your sister; it sounds like you’ve got quite a few adventures planned. I hope you see lots of bears (not up too close, though). When we were in Vancouver last week, we happened to see an otter crossing the walkway. I was so surprised at how different they look out of the water… not nearly so cuddly.

    Absolutely stunning photos!!
I especially love the boots one and the ones showcasing both of my beautiful sisters!
    💕💕
The oceans shots were magnificent! I almost felt like I was right there looking at it and smelling the ocean and hearing the waves.
    ❤️

  5. Love the trees and the whale watching trip but most importantly that you and your sister had some quality time. That’s the outstanding part of the post. Not every set of siblings have that kind of relationship. Glad you do.

    1. Thank you, Bernie 💕 Yes, I am always happy to spend time with my sisters when I can. We are many miles apart, which makes our together times rare and something to be treasured. And probably helps with us actually wanting to spend time with each other 🤣.

    1. Thank you, Suzanne 💕 Another walker on the trail that day taught us to lean right against the tree with the camera and shoot upwards – now why didn’t I ever think of that??? 😁

Great colours on your waterproof boots. We call them wellies (short for wellingtons) here in the UK, what do you call them in Canada?

That’s quite some piece of driftwood – it would’ve driven my mother crazy being too large & heavy to move, for it’s a great shape.

    1. Thank you, Debs 💕 I’ve heard them called wellies here also…but mostly people I know just call them rain boots or muck boots. That IS a wonderful piece of driftwood, for sure!

Here's where the magic happens. I love comments!
