Y is for Yawning #AtoZChallenge

The late, great Mizz Lucy, enjoying time outside in the summer. She was 9 years old in these photos.

There is just something about the warm weather that makes it more than OK to slow down and spend a lot of time doing nothing.

In olden days, they used to call it “enjoying time”.

Whatcha doing? Nothin’ much, just enjoying time.

Think about it. Not racing time or trying to beat time or fit more time into the day…just enjoying time.

Whatcha doing Mizz Lucy? Going in for DA LOVE and enjoying time.

Nothing but sitting and observing and enjoying life and simply being, instead of always doing. As I have mentioned before in this challenge, animals are great at this. We should all be more like our animals.

Keep going; don’t stop scratching my ears now!

And, if you start yawning and then find yourself drifting into a doze as the cicadas hum in the background, you, my friend, have officially reached the pinnacle of enjoying time: summer nirvana. Bonus points if you have a dog at your feet or a cat in your lap. Or a dog in your lap (but I hope it’s a small one, like Mizz Lucy…hehehe).

Let’s make a plan to enjoy time this summer.

Rock (and yawn) on,

The WB

Can you guess my theme for this year’s A-Z Challenge? All of my A-Z posts this month will be tied into my theme, which is represented by the title of a song that was popular when I was a child. Can you figure it out as the days (and posts) go by? Leave your guesses (one per day only, please) in the comments. At the end of the challenge, I will reveal the theme. Have fun!

  1. Mizz Lucy is adorable and adorably affectionate. No wonder you’re on the lookout for a new canine companion, Deb.

Yawning sounds wonderful to me and it is well modelled by my two dogs. But it will have to be put on hold for several weeks thanks to those same dogs. I’ve just started ‘Well Behaved Dog’ classes with Toffee. She’s already quite terrific, but no harm in a little polishing and I’m hoping to take what I’ve learned and apply it to my fearful girl, Shylah. Anyway, great trainer for the class but she gives a LOT of homework. Right now any yawning time that might exist is taken up with Toffee and I driving to various distracting locations where we can parade around in square formation for 45 minutes while adults and small children gawk 🙂

    Have a great weekend, Deb.

    1. Good luck with the training! I remember taking Lucy as a wee pup to any and all strange and noisy and crowded locations so she would learn not to be fearful. And guess what I ended up with? An 18 pound badass superhero of a dog that was afraid of nothing and no one, even when she probably should have been. Who figured her sole purpose in life was to be adored and made much of. Ah well, I wouldn’t have traded her for another.
You have a great weekend as well, Karen!

I’ve never heard the term “enjoying time.” We’ve always said “killing time” but your phrase is so much more positive with no guilt trip suggested.

Your Lucy looks a lot like my Levi the Mighty Schnauzer…not in coloring but the shape of their faces and bodies are the same and certainly their temperaments. Is Lucy in the terrier family?

    1. Lucy was a miniature Schnauzer. But there was nothing mini about her, in attitude. I used to say about her that when she looked in the mirror she saw a Rottweiler looking back at her. She was my second dog of this breed. She was salt and pepper that turned silver with age. I am looking forward to welcoming a 3rd mini Schnauzer puppy into my life in the future! Just love these dogs for so many reasons.

  3. You are so right about our pets personifying the ability to luxuriate in simply ‘being’.

Theo purrs with contentment at the drop of a pin, has perfected the art of relaxation, and still manages to fill his waking hours with outdoor adventures. I strive to be more like my cat 🙂 💕

  4. I’ve never heard the phrase “enjoying time” and I love it. I agree that pets do it as if it’s the most normal thing to do. Mizz Lucy is a cutie.

  5. Retirement Reflections

‘Yawning’ is such a great word for the ‘Y’ post, Deb. “Y’ was the letter that gave me the most challenge. I just couldn’t come up with a “Y” word that I liked that also went with ‘soup’. Thus, yadda, yadda, yadda….which perfectly described how I was feeling! 🙂

  6. Retirement Reflections

Hi, Deb – I can totally relate. ‘Y’ was my toughie. ‘X’ and ‘Q’ were much easier than I expected. ‘A’ was the first letter of my theme name, so thankfully that led to an easier start!

Here's where the magic happens. I love comments!
