I thought it might be time for a chicken update – Bowser disagreed – but I’m doing it anyways!
Mama Blue and the Blue Crew…This multi-coloured bird (centre) is a Swedish Flower Chicken. All the chickens have names but I have forgotten this one’s. Which is good because I am trying very hard not to be too attached to any as we don’t know which are hens and which are roosters (aka future freezer dwellers). It’s so cute to see them all come running towards me when I enter their space. They are looking for treats (natch!) and I don’t disappoint them.
Enough about chickens, Bowser says. Tell them I got a new haircut at the torture place doggy spa.
Just look at me!!!!Here I am in my supermodel pose!I’m still the cutest, right?
We hope you’re having a great weekend and feeling cute.
I love the baby chickens…teenagers now it seems. My neighbor, 2 houses down got 6 chickens a couple years ago. One ended up being a rooster. He is loud. And mean. It’s hard when I’m taking care of them when the family goes on vacation, because the rooster is very protective. He’s beautiful though. Well…last Sunday I got a frantic phone call from the chicken mom asking for a nother neighbor’s phone # (who also has had chickens) becaue “we think our rooster died.” I remember wondering how you can ‘think’ something is dead. It’s either dead or not. And with a rooster you certainly should know which. But she was in too much of a panic to discuss with ME, a non-chicken person. So I gave her the number to the neighbor who went up there and confirmed the rooster had died. Seems he came out of their enclosure, crowed and flapped his wings and fell over dead. They think heart attack. He now resides in the freezer. Hmmmmmm… I could not eat him, having known him in his previous life.
Yeah, that’s kinda weird not knowing if the bird is alive or dead until confirmed by someone else?! I don’t know if I can eat any of these birds if they end up in the freezer. Thanks, Dawn 💕
Love the chickens (but not more than Bowser!). I had a pet chick when I was a kid. First day of school I came home to roast chicken. My mom said it could not come in the house when it got cold so she roasted it when I wasn’t around. Very traumatic. I wouldn’t eat it but my brother did.
I remember my two older brothers – when they were young – getting crew cuts at the barber every summer. Although they might have preferred longer hair, I imagine they appreciated their cooler scalps. 🙂 I think Bowser might like his short cut too.
Ah, roosters. Not a huge fan and think they should be freezer food as soon as big enough. Hens are OK. These are so interesting looking. What colour eggs does she lay? Ah Bowser and I both enjoy the short easy summer hair do!
You know, my son-in-law keeps telling me things about these birds and I forget most of it, including their egg colours…but I do know he is choosing the breeds such that he gets every colour of eggs. Well, that’s the plan, anyways 😏. Thanks, Bernie 💕
Bowser is looking very smart, but I don’t know… those are some good looking birds.
😉
I know, right? Cuteness abounds😁. Thanks, Rivergirl 💕
Those are some beautiful chickens. They look almost too beautiful to eat.
Exactly! But we are not allowed any roosters where we live, and nobody wants roosters anyways. Thanks, TG 💕

PS: The whole neighborhood is now sleeping in past 5:15 a.m.
🤣

Hi Debs – Bowser is I’m sure easier now it’s so warm. The chicks look amazing … fun to have the critterly families around – cheers Hilary
It is a lot of fun, thanks Hilary 💕 We are having another streak of hot weather so Bowser’s haircut was timed perfectly!

Wow! That would be very traumatic, Kate. I’m so sorry that happened to you 💕
Yes, I should have had therapy. Probably scared me for life.
I’m not sure if that is Bowzer’s happy face, but he does look cute.
Bowser says thank you 💕 He also says you have great taste 😉.
Loved Dawn’s chicken story above. I’m somewhat afraid of chickens so there will never be any in my future…even at a petty zoo.
Bowser got himself an exceptionally nice haircut for the rest of summer.
Thank you, Jean 💕 Bowser thanks you too 🐾

We’re under another heat advisory so the timing was perfect for Bowser’s coiffure. Thanks, Janis 💕

Aww, Bowz, you’ll ALWAYS be the cutest! 😉💕💕
Bowser says “I know!”, and “thank you, Bobi! You have great taste, obviously.” 💕🐾

Getting chickens has been tough since the Avian flu hit Canada. Some of those eggs are so pretty.
Very smart
Thank you, Sheree 💕
He’s so adorable. But so are the chickens. Don’t tell him I said that.
Your secret is safe with me! 😉 Thanks, Kari 💕
