Despite a cold, wet spring here on the Island, things are happening in my little garden! And I am “shopping” daily in my backyard to put things on my plate.
I planted peas for the first time – snow, sugar snap and shelling peas – all of which are becoming my go-to snacks as well as being featured at meal time.
I’ve been making a lot of these simple and quick rice bowl meals.
And for dessert?
Please join me and my co-host Donna (she’s back!!!) and let us know what’s on your plate this month! Feel free to leave a link in the Comments or join the Link Party:
Rock on,
The WB
I LOVE peas right out of the garden. I haven’t had a garden in many years, and fresh peas are hard to replicate any other way.
They sure are! It’s a real treat and I have lots of 2 legged visitors coming by to snack right off the vines 😁. Thanks, Dawn 💕
I’m not a huge pea person, but I love snow peas. And those raspberries? Perfect!
Yes, so perfect and so handy! It’s going to be a great year for berries here – in my garden and in the wilds. Thanks, Rivergirl 💕
There is nothing fresher than picking your own peas!
You know it! Thanks, Kate 💕
Your garden is so ahead of mine. The only thing ready just now is green onions. The weather has been quite cool here; I’m blaming that for the slow progress. And the germination was sporadic. I just used some frozen peas in my version of a paella. Also in the kitchen this past wk: lasagna, Greek salad, butternut squash soup. I also made a rhubarb crisp for the neighbors & chocolate chip cookies to have on hand in the freezer. I found a ham bone in the fridge freezer yesterday so made some baked beans using the last jar of pineapple zucchini (recipe on line). Your garden looks great.
We are finally getting some heat, here on the island…and the garden is responding accordingly. Also had struggles with germination and some that did sprout are on the struggle bus due to being nibbled on, and the cold start but oh well, that is life! Thanks, Mona 💕
I LOVE rice-bowl meals. Add super fresh peas and just-picked rasperberries and what could be better? Hopefully, Bowser helped you with the gardening again! <3
Hehehe…Bowser is on quality control duty. He loves to eat raspberries and peas!!! So if that is a help, yes he is being one 🤣. Thanks, my friend 💕
Lately, your posts are as close as I get to healthy eating or enjoying summer. Our 110-degree days are killing every potential garden plant in sight.
Yikes! I can’t imagine trying to do anything at those temps except stay indoors next to the A/C. I left Ontario for the west coast partly due to the cold winters but also due to the stifling and humid summers. I could never just have the windows open and enjoy the weather. I hope you can catch a break or get away, Kieran. Thanks 💕
Your garden sounds fab … and you can grow raspberries! There’s not much better than fresh peas – of any description.
So true! Thanks, Jo 💕
I love both snowpeas and raspberries…this is a gorgeous post – the colours made me smile!
Thank you very much, Lydia 💕 The colours in my garden ARE popping right now!
I love how you say you are shopping for dinner in your garden! Absolutely beautiful produce with simple, tasty ways to enjoy them. Your photos made me feel inspired to try and do more in my garden. Currently harvesting a few passionfruit and lemons as it’s winter here.
Yes! Gardening can become addictive, once you have some success 😂. At least that’s how it works for me. Thanks, Janine 💕
beautiful! I’m not a fan of peas but I wonder whether if I had some straight from the garden, my opinion might change. There aren’t many (any, probably) fruits and veggies that don’t taste best freshly picked. Can you grow melons there?
I haven’t tried but I suspect we don’t have enough hot weather for melons, Janis. I’m not a big fan of frozen or canned peas, but fresh peas are a whole other story, let me tell ya 😋. Thank you 💕
Fresh peas are delicious. As are raspberries. Both taste good and look pretty, like your photos prove.
Absolutely! Thanks, Ally 💕
Hi Deb – my perfect meal too … I must try the Sambal Badjak … I’ve been using sun-dried tomato and parmesan paste rather too much recently. Raspberries … especially straight from the garden – you’re doing so well with ‘your estate’ … cheers and keep on enjoying the fruits and veg of your labour. Hilary
Thank you very much, Hilary 💕 Yes, please try the sambal badjak and let me know what you think.
