What’s On Your Plate Blog Challenge – Birthday Breakfast Edition

I had a whole ‘nother post lined up for August’s WOYPBC and now it will have to wait until September…because of a conversation Joanne and I had on the morning of my birthday (July 27 – mark your calendars 😉). We FaceTime most mornings (I know – lucky me, right? 😄) and this was my birthday morning and the conversation turned to food. Well, OK it usually does. Specifically what was I going to eat on my special day. I mentally went through my cupboards and my fridge and decided I had all the ingredients to make myself French toast for breakfast on this most auspicious day – fresh BC raspberries, sourdough bread, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon and milk. And maple syrup, of course!

So after our call I got to “work”. And while I was assembling everything I had another thought: I wonder if I could make French toast in the air fryer? A quick Google search confirmed that I most certainly can. I didn’t follow a specific recipe but just noted the approximate times and temperatures, and off I went!

Fresh and local. It doesn’t get better than this!
Bread soaking in beaten egg, milk, vanilla and cinnamon.
In parchment-lined air fryer basket. I used a temp of 370F, for 4 minutes. Then I flipped the toast and did the other side for another 3-4 minutes.
The finished product. Beauty!
Plated and ready to eat!
Food p*rn money shot 😜
Mmmmmmm. Happy birthday to ME! 😁

Please let my co-host Donna or myself know what’s on your plate at your house, in the Comments section of either of our WOYPBC posts (or both, if you are so inclined!). Please check out Donna’s August post where she details her typical meals!

Hi Deb – happy belated birthday – while French Toast with raspberries looks delicious (way too delicious – I’d have to have seconds) … love your photos … happy year ahead – cheers Hilary

    1. They are putting the air fryer option on everything now. The range I ordered for my new place has an air fryer setting for the oven, which I may never use since I usually only cook for one and my little countertop air fryer is enough for me. Thanks, Rivergirl 💕

  2. Just missing the whipped cream to take it over the top for your birthday breakfast. Fresh raspberries– must go pick mine again!! Belated birthday wishes and best of luck with the move. Bernie

      1. I can’t have whipping cream in the house unless it has a plan! Otherwise it miraculously disappears to be found on my hips and in my arteries.

  3. Hi Deb, what a lovely birthday breakfast treat. I didn’t realise how much we can use our air fryer until I’ve started reading blog posts like yours. We are in the midst of packing boxes at the moment as we prepare to move house next week so will join in what’s on your plate? next month from my new home. x

  4. Happy birthday to you indeed! This does look good & I’m going to try it in the air fryer next time… but with bacon. In fact, I can almost taste it…

    1. I showed some unusual restraint! Yes, only made 1 piece of birthday French toast, anticipating more birthday treats as the day went on 😁 (which did happen!). Thanks, Liesbet 💕

  5. Happy belated birthday, Deb! This looks delicious and beautiful with the fresh raspberries. Thank you for hosting WOYP with Donna. I added my vacation eating link. Have a great weekend!

Celebrate every day! I use food for celebration & reward so this body-by-bacon can’t afford indulgent breakfasts everyday. Your breakfast looks delicious. Full on breakfasts are usually saved for company. The usual breakfast is toast with cheese/tomato or a boiled egg with salsa or a delicious chutney:
1 c sauerkraut; 1 jar chili sauce (~2 c), 1 can whole cranberry sauce; 1/4 c brown sugar. Simmer on med heat x 15 min. Makes ~ 1 qt. Can be stored in fridge. Good on any protein, including cheese.
I think a crisp would be a good breakfast food with the oatmeal & fruit! I often make a crisp with combined rhubarb, raspberries & saskatoons. You choose – ice cream or whipped cream?

    1. Wow! I have never thought of putting sauerkraut in a chutney. I love “the kraut” and I love that you shared a whole new way to eat it. Thanks, Mona 💕 I do try to celebrate every day (but not always with food lest I outgrow my wardrobe 😁). Fruit crisps are a favourite fall and winter dessert for me. Ice cream or just plain milk if eating it hot. Whipped cream if cold!

  7. Happy belated birthday! I love French Toast for that occasional special breakfast. Yours looks delicious. I assume the air fryer cooking worked well.

The perfect birthday breakfast (I’m soooo late to the party, it feels almost rude to send wishes, but I do). My air fryer has been bumped off the “things we will make room for in our kitchen” list by a slow cooker – because of the UK energy crisis, so Himself tells me in serious tones while unwrapping his box with undisguised glee. I know I’ll appreciate his common sense when electricity bills go stratospheric, but I’m peeved at having to wait.

    1. It’s never rude to send wishes, thanks so much Debs! Slow cookers are great energy saving appliances and I think air fryers could be too because they are smaller and faster than using a regular oven. However, I’m sure Himself is correct to think a slow cooker beats an air fryer when it comes to minimal energy usage. Thank you 💕
