Silent Sunday – Pipers Lagoon Park

Please enjoy these photos taken at Friday’s hike. It was the first time the sun had broken through the fog in about a week!

We weren’t the only people enjoying this foggy early morning.
Fog is lifting and the sun is peeking through! (And rejoicing was heard throughout the island 🙂 )
Blue skies to the north and east, and fog to the south and west
Spooky
View of lagoon when the tide is in
Distant ships in the fog
The tree looks to be cradling the sun
Salish Sea
Donna on the lagoon side, with Salish Sea also in background…and the welcomed sun!
Donna, further along the trail
It’s good for people to rest at this time too.
Beautiful mainland mountains
Mountain peaks framed by trees
We are having a lovely time
Distant islands viewed from a rocky outcropping
Still foggy when looking to the south. There were 3 river otters swimming in the sea below us, but unfortunately they were hard to capture effectively in a photo.
Logs, beach and islands
Typical log-encrusted island beach
What a glorious morning to be at Pipers Lagoon Park!

Rock on,

The WB

    1. I’d only been there once before and thought it was kinda meh. WTF was wrong with me??? I would have suggested this one for you and Paul had only I known what I was missing. Thanks, Janis 💕

Gorgeous as always, Deb. Beautiful spot you’re living in now. Although I hate it when I don’t see sun for periods of time. I feel like we’ve hardly had any sun days since the start of the 2019 bushfires (because we went from smoke to la nina, which is a cloudy and wet weather for us).

  2. Hi, Deb ~ What a grand morning hike & I loved all the photos – thank you! Was interested to know how all those logs got there. Even did a bit of searching amongst Nanaimo’s Parks & Rec info but couldn’t learn much. Do you know if they just roll in on the tide? What a grand place you’ve moved to. Thanks again for taking us along. 💕

  3. love the photos – with the artsy trees in winter mode and the warm colors in the sky –
but when you said it ws the first time the sun had broken through in a while – that upped the joy level big time – 🙂

  4. What a photogenic place! The trees are beautiful, as is the light. Great place to hike for sure! I hope you and we get some more sun the rest of this winter. I am sorely in need of some.

Deb, what utterly gorgeous scenery. I look this time of year when the trees create such stark outlines against the winter sky. Of course, that wintery sky being bright blue or gorgeously soft & foggy, make those outlines even more beautiful. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Beautiful! But no snow? I would have thought it would be on the ground all winter long. What is the average temperature up there this time of the year?

    1. It rarely snows on Vancouver Island (except for on our mountains) and rarely dips below zero (Celsius). Yesterday it was 8 degrees C. Average winter temps that I have experienced so far hover around 5 degrees C. Thanks, Jean 💕

    1. From my observation, winter temps average around 5 degrees Celsius. Yesterday it was 8C. It rarely drops below zero (= 32F, that much I remember about Fahrenheit!) and rarely snows, where I live. Thanks, Kari 💕

Hi Deb – that sign is just perfect for us all to remember … though it looks like you and Donna were having way too much fun! Great to see laughing happy people. It is an amazing place to live and be able to enjoy the surroundings – cheers Hilary
