These shots are absolutely amazing. Your use of colour and drama is breathtaking. You have instantly transported me right there. (You have also made me want to pick up my camera and experiemnt further)! ๐
I tell you Donna, our foray into advancing our smartphone photography skills has been one of the best and most enjoyable things so far in 2021! Thanks ๐
Beautiful sunrise! Nice Photos ๐. We also just had a very colourful sunrise (alas I was working and could only glance and photos weren’t an option) and now the clouds here. Enjoy your day.
You are most welcome, Ally ๐ These are indeed real views and I am so lucky to see them in person. I donโt take any of these mornings (or days) for granted. And I hope I never do.
Gorgeous! We took a walk along the coast yesterday too… youโve encouraged me to share my walk as well. I think we can all use a bit more beauty in our lives, right?
Gorgeous photos! I think one of the most important skills of a photographer is to be a good observer. And thinking about how to photograph something reminds a person of the beauty of the landscapes all around us.
Stellar, m’dear ~ stellar photos! Not being much of an early morning person I greatly admire your ability to function before dawn, to see and capture such exquisite images.
Thank you for all your early mornings, and for referencing iPhone Photography School. What I’ve seen thus far from them is concise, transfers to ipads, & is much appreciated! ๐
Hi Deb – those are just wonderful photos – clear skies with pretty salmon pink clouds … it’s gorgeous – especially with the mainland in the distance. The sealions are fantastic aren’t they – loved seeing them and hearing down in Cowichan Bay … enjoy the coming of Spring – Hilary
Oh Deb, those colours, those gorgeous skies – you are doing great work in capturing them. Absolutely gorgeous photos – hard to believe they’re “just” smartphone shots.
Stunning photos as always, Deb. I miss seeing the sun over the water. The best I can do now I am landlocked is a lake. I should try and get some photos of that…
Lakes are gorgeous too. I grew up spending summers at one of our Great Lakes, and always thought I would end up living beside a lake someday. My sister did just that, but it hasnโt happened for me so far. The closest I have come is living across the street from a river. Thank you, AJ ๐
Hi Deb, I am glad I checked back through my email, since I saw your beautiful post a few days ago and I realize I had not commented. You captured stunning photos of the always unique Departure Bay skies. Great angle on the totem poles! It is difficult to show the three dimensional quality. Ahhhh, thank you for the breathe in……breathe out….๐
This blog is like a box of chocolates. Very true description. Tasty, classy colourful wrappers(photos), various delicious offering, some linger and some you just gobble up…
Did you think of your tagline before or after you had started this blog?
Thank you, Monica ๐ These are not pictures of a lake, however. It is the Salish Sea (the part of the Pacific Ocean that surrounded the eastern side of Vancouver Island).

Thank you, Bernie ๐ Enjoy yours as well!
I see photos like these and cannot believe they are real. So pretty. I see nothing like these views ever here. Thanks for sharing them here.

It sure is. Thank you, Leslie ๐
Now that’s a treat! It makes waking up early worthwhile.
Getting up early is a reward in itself, I figure. This is the cherry on the icing on the cake! Thank you, Sandy ๐

Absolutely, Janis! Thank you ๐
You live in such a glorious area. Maybe someday Iโll get there.
Thank you, Rivergirl ๐ Vancouver Island is the jewel of a province already renowned for its beauty.
It ridiculous that we live in Maine and have never crossed the border to Canada. Someday….
Hey, Iโve been to Maine a few times. Very pretty there.

What a lovely way to start the day … especially knowing you caught the best of it before the clouds took over!!
True! We had some hail come down shortly after I got back home…another first for me on the Island. Thanks, Joanne ๐
Wow, you are truly surrounded by beautiful and life charging and changing scenery.
Thank you, Jean ๐ Yes, I feel I am.

Thank you, Erica ๐ The dark sky in the background really made the totem poles pop!
I love sunrise and sunset pictures, especially over the water!
Me too, Bethany. I never get tired of looking at them or trying to capture them with my camera. Thank you ๐

Thank you ๐ I change my tag line from time to time…Iโve been blogging for 11+ years and this is its latest incarnation.
Well I like it. I find it apt. Will try to watch out for the next change. ๐
Stunning pictures of lakeside and sun. Missed seeing the nature beauty in hectic life schedule. Great post

Beautiful pictures. I was wondering your location, but given the totem poles, its somewhere in the Pacific northwest.
Yes, Frank. It is at Departure Beach, in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Thanks! ๐
