The first weekend of August was reserved for the Mill Race Festival of Traditional Music.
I enjoyed listening to the world music brought to this festival. This year, I listened to an artist from Afghanistan:
And one originally from West Africa, now based out of Montreal:
The second weekend of August was KW Bluesfest, starting on Thursday night with Rik Emmett (formerly of Triumph):
And then it was Jonny Lang’s turn:
Saturday afternoon, I watched Magic Dick (of J.Geils Band) work his harmonica magic:
Saturday night it was the Ghost Town Blues Band – highly enjoyable – so much so that I forgot to take any pictures!
Sunday morning it was gospel for breakfast:
Then my daughter and her guy left for BC and I fell apart, and into a frenzy of cleaning:
The third weekend of August was set aside for Riverfest Elora.
Friday night, July Talk hit the stage:
Riverfest has gained popularity. It was quite crowded this year. Grrr.
The final weekend of August was for connecting with friends and recovering from all the festival action.
Then a few days ago, I took some time during the week to go to Stratford with Joanne of My Life Lived Full, to catch Rocky Horror at the Avon Theatre:
The next day we got even sillier on the Speed River. Not really, although I did get baptized in the river when my kayak entry went awry (first time, ever!). Thankfully no undignified pictures were snapped because Joanne is a FRIEND first and blogger second. 🙂 Check out her kayaking photos here.
And that pretty much wraps up the month for me.
The Changing Seasons is a monthly blog challenge hosted by Su Leslie of Zimmerbitch.
Rock on,
The WB
That photo of you and Joanne is priceless. Looks like TONS of fun!
Hehehe! Thanks Donna. Joanne is a fun person to be around. She is always up for a challenge! Me, I need to work on my silly face obviously. It’s sad to realize I have forgotten how to be silly.
Sounds like a month full of music. Good for you!
It certainly turned out that way Janet. And next August will be a repeat as these same festivals will be reoccurring on the same weekends. I already have my weekend pass for next year’s Riverfest and I don’t even know the lineup – won’t know it until next April, at least!
Your friends photos on her blog are great! And your bathroom floor is amazing! I’m jealous.
Do you have a job/career related to music or are you just super fan of music?
Thank you Jean! I love slate tiles and when I saw these at the ceramic store during the bathroom renovation I knew I had to have them. No, I don’t work in music, just a true fan of it. I have zero musical ability so that makes me treasure it all the more when I get to see others who do.
I’m discovering that commenting on blog posts on a phone in the back seat of a moving car is not easy 😬
LOVE that photo of the 2 of us at Rocky. We should always make sure we have time to be silly!
I’m so glad I was able to help you end the month on a happy note after the sadness of your daughter moving to BC 💕
Thank you Joanne, for schooling me in the lost art (lost to me anyway) of being silly 😜💕. Have a lovely weekend!
Sounds like a musical mixture of fun! Rocky Horror is one of my favorites, hope you enjoyed it. Looks like you and Joanne had a great time! I’m also glad you got to end the month on a happy note.
Thank you Karen! Rocky Horror was quite enjoyable with an extremely talented cast, but no one can compare to Tim Curry as Frank N. Furter.
I love listening to instruments from different countries/cultures. So fun! And the different sounds are amazing. Floor looks good, but I’m sorry about your knees. This was a great way to do a wrap-up :D.
Thank you Akilah! I love the world music aspect of our little hometown music festival. It is supposed to be a folk music festival primarily and it is wonderful to be exposed to old and new music from different cultures. Yeah, the knees hurt but my love of slate makes the pain bearable.
I’m jealous of your bathroom floor. It’s gorgeous. I’ve always wanted slate floors. Maybe one day…
I love mine to death. I have smaller slate tiles on my shower stall and it makes me feel like I’m showering on a rock shelf on some Northern Lake. Bliss!
SWEET! I saw Majic Dick open for Lynyrd Skynyrd in May and Johnny Lang open for Buddy Guy in July. Nothing better than live music!
AWESOME, Don! Agreed – nothing better than live music! Thanks for commenting.
Deb
You sure love your concerts!
I love live music! And August is the month for festivals close to me, so I can’t not go!
You certainly get out and about young lady! Glad to see you’ve been enjoying yourself and your bathroom floor looks amazing – it’s a lot of work and I bet your knees were killing you by the end of it all!
Hehehe! Actually the skin on my knees didn’t get tender till the day after! Thanks Leanne!
