I have loved seeing live acts since I was in my early teens. I love it now more than ever and I discussed that here.
And there is nothing I love more than music, in the outdoors, in the summer. Yep, the summer music festival.
The last few years have been amazing for summer music festivals. Acts are touring like crazy lately, in order to make money. And this widow is happy to take advantage. (I think it may have peaked last year but there are still plenty to choose from.)
The only downside (for me) of outdoor music festivals is taking your chances on the weather. I’ve been at these events where the temps were over 30 degrees Celsius and there was no shade to be had. I’ve also been stuck outdoors all day and night at 12 degrees Celsius, where the kids and I huddled together under our picnic blanket for warmth, while we watched the acts. I’ve also been rained on.
But the majority of music festivals I’ve attended have been in great weather. Which is why summer music festivals rock!

Can you guess my theme for this year’s A-Z Challenge? All of my A-Z posts this month will be tied into my theme, which is represented by the title of a song that was popular when I was a child. Can you figure it out as the days (and posts) go by? Leave your guesses (one per day only, please) in the comments. At the end of the challenge, I will reveal the theme. Have fun!
Hi Deb,
This is one of those interests where we diverge big time. I do respect your interest in all kinds of music and can see the appeal for you of outdoor festivals. As for me, I’d run screaming from crowds of people standing around in the sun to listen to the kinds of music suggested by the photos.
Have a great weekend.
Hehehe! I get that. I’m not a lover of crowds so much as a lover of rock music. Also a lover of people-watching. (Yep, I’m one of those that likes to go to the airport early just to do some people-watching while I wait to board.) You will not ever find me down in the mosh pit, unless dragged there by one of my kids. I like to stake out a spot farther back, and take it all in from there.
I’m on the same page as you, Karen. Although I have been to a handful of concerts over the years, it really holds little appeal to me.
Never been to a rock music festival and never had a desire to go but I used to love going to outdoor, bluegrass festivals. Loved those days when my husband and I were both young and carefree.
Those would be fun too. I appreciate and love almost all music, so if I was in the neighbourhood where a (insert music genre here) festival was happening, I would go to listen. Except maybe not rap or EDM. I have yet to develop an appreciation for these types of music.
Live music is medicine. One live music that we went to almost every year was Michael Arnone’s Crawish Fest in Summit New Jersey every year. Kind of Nola comes to Jersey. Its amazing. We went even when her mobility was becoming an issue and sat under a tree near the gate. I would go and get us food and drink and we’d listen to great music. Since she passed, I have continued to go, and I eat under our tree and write in my journal. Then I go and walk around, eat, drink and take in the acts. But when I go now, its also emotional because, even though I love this fest, I feel like I am retracing our steps.
Rock on!
Don
Thank you Don, for sharing! That festival does sound amazing. I’m glad you are still enjoying live music, even if it does get emotional.
Rock on,
Deb
Although I’m not a concert-goer, I appreciate that your photos are great! If these are all phone photos, I’m really impressed!
The BIG Music Fest and Edward Sharpe photos were taken with my (albeit, fancy) point ‘n shoot. The rest were taken with an iPhone – first 5, then after 2016 the 7 Plus. I am very pleased with the 7 Plus camera. Thanks, Joanne!
